Memorial website in the memory of your loved one

This memorial website was created by her family to remember and cherish the memories of Samantha Renee Marquez. She was born on June 21, 1992 In Colorado Springs, CO. She passed away on July 18, 2008 due a tragic accident while playing "The Choking Game."

Samantha was very fun, outgoing, expressive, and beautiful. She loved to write, draw, and listen to all sorts of music. She liked to play video games including Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution. Sammii had an uhmazing sense of humor and could brighten anyone's day. She was the comedian of the family. Sometimes her jokes were inappropriate but we all knew that was just Sam. We never knew what she would say next. She had a large family who she loved dearly and was given the same love in return. Samantha liked to hang out with her friends, specifically Katii Puff. Sam would walk around the whole city just to be with friends. She didn't really enjoy school, except for Mr. Kelso's World History class. She thought he was an uhmazing teacher. She liked to spell everything in her own unique way (which probably upset her English teachers!). Sammi watched Days of Our Lives on a regular basis and could always explain who was related to who! She even talked about the characters like she knew them personally. Sam played softball and ran track in middle school. Her favorite color was orange and she loved little rubber ducks. Some of her favorite bands were Fallout Boy, Weezer, Panic at the Disco, and Gym Class Heros. She touched so many lives in the short time she was with us. The days aren't as bright without her. It has been a great struggle dealing with the pain her death brought us all. We miss her laugh, smell, and personality. She was a great young lady who is going to miss out on some of life's great milestones. She won't even get to make fun of her little sister's new braces and her big sister's new glasses! Her family and friends love and miss her tremendously.

Her mother and step-father are Wilson and Michelle Rivera. Her father is Andrew Marquez. Samantha has six brothers and sisters- ALisha, Kayla, Domanic, Mariah, Abrianna, and Mark. She is very lucky to have so many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends who love her as well.

We hope that something positive will come out her death. We are trying to raise awareness about the dangers of playing "The Choking Game" so that no other family has to endure the pain we all are experiencing. If anyone would like to contact the family about information regarding "the Choking Game" and the dangers of playing, please reach us by email. (ali_marquez122506@hotmail.com)

Our Wish

Samantha's laugh and sense of humor will live on forever. Everyone who knew her has a different memory that they will always have in their hearts.

Our family hopes that her tragic death will open the eyes of other teens and parents to the risks of "The Choking Game."  This "game" produces a euphoric feeling that many teens and even pre-teens are curious to experience. By choking oneself, the person loses oxygen to the brain and once the pressure is released a sort of "rush" feeling occurs. Some kids play with their friends so that someone can release the pressure around the neck. It's when you play alone that the chances of death are alot more likely. However, either way is extremely dangerous. "The Choking Game" can result in serious injury, brain damage, and death. Alot of children try this "game" because they don't feel like they are doing anything wrong. They're not using drugs or alcohol, but are getting a similar "high." They do not feel as if they'll get in trouble because "it's only a game." With Samantha's death our family hopes to help prevent more of these senseless incidents and help other families who are also victims of this "game."
